Another tremendous turnout of members and guests this evening! We welcomed our first-time guests Abby, Judith, Kevin and Anne and returning guest Gertrude. We were also pleased to see our Division J Governor Sanjay join us following his return from the District Conference in Vernon. Thank you all for visiting and to learn that you enjoyed the evening!
Vic, in his first-time role as Chair, did an excellent job guiding this meeting, which was very full with lots of varied activities. “Unusual Occupations” was the theme and this was well supported throughout the evening – well done to all concerned!
Lily enjoyed her role as Grammarian and provided the appropriate word of the day: Vocation: an occupation, business, profession, or trade. Example: “Bookkeeping is her vocation although while on vacation photography is her avocation (hobby).” Used frequently, vocation was a good fit and well used by all.
During the business meeting hosted by our Acting President Susan, the elections were held for the year July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008, and congratulations to the following members elected to the executive:
President: Susan
VP Education: Lutz
Asst. to VP Education: Margot
VP Membership: Julie
VP Public Relations: Maureen
Secretary: Lily
Treasurer: Antonella
Sergeant-at-Arms: Ken
Asst. to SAA: still available.
If you have not served on the executive, please consider helping Ken. Serving on the executive is one of the requirements towards your Competent Leader and gives you better insight into the running of the club!
Carol, as VP Membership, inducted Brad and John. Congratulations to you both and as bona fide members of the club you are now eligible to be called upon for Table Topics – and that’s exactly what happened!
Tracey, as Table Topics Master, relished her role in offering five scenarios of very different and not-so-pleasing occupations! Brad and John, as brand new members, were excellent in their roles as tree climber and condo spy! Both are to be commended for their performance on such a new stage!! Maureen (as embalmer) won the Best Table Topics Award, and Maurice not only evaluated Table Topics but volunteered to be Toastmaster, which he handled so very well!
Our program speakers were Albert, who delivered his sixth speech and Lourdes her second; nicely done both of you! Albert won the Best Speaker Award and Lutz the Best Evaluator Award for his evaluation of Albert’s speech. Congratulations to all winners!
Sanjay, Tom and Lydia spoke of their visit to the District Conference. Tom was awarded the Home Club of the Area Governor (80) ribbon and Sanjay mentioned that next year there are many area governors from Tillicum: Area 80 will be Grace, 83 Lydia and 84 Rosemary, and Tom will be Division B Governor!! Great going members; kudos to Tillicum for again being one of the strongest clubs in Division J and District 21!

Do join us next Monday, May 14, when Carol will inject her own unique blend of humour as Chair, with the theme Rock ‘n’ Roll Night – sounds like a lot of fun, so please help Carol when she calls on you to fill roles.
As well, don’t forget that “Moon over Buffalo” begins May 17, so please advise Maureen of dates you wish to attend.
Have a great week, and see you on the 14th!
Best wishes,
