Meeting of Monday, June 11, 2007

Another full house tonight and we welcomed our guests Bernie (President, Anchor Toastmasters), Dean from Speechcraft and returning guests Abby and Shelly. Thanks for sharing a delightful evening with us!

Lily in her first-time role as Chair did a superb job and kept to the theme, Rhyme Night, with much aplomb and humour; great job Lily with bridging and enthusiasm!

Ken opted into the role of Grammarian and chose a lesser-known word, Homonym: one or two or more words spelled and pronounced alike, but with different meanings. Example: “You don’t play pool in a pool of water!” Remarkably well integrated into the evening and thanks for a job well done!

During the Business Meeting, Susan spoke on some of the difficulties we have encountered lately regarding signed up speakers who were not available to speak on their chosen night, resulting in only one speaker actually speaking. This is disappointing to members who are available to speak. It was agreed that a speaker can only signup for one speech at a time, and the motion by Maureen to have a pool of speakers available was tabled until June 18. Hopefully, this dilemma can be resolved and all speakers will have the opportunity to progress through their manuals efficiently and rewardingly!

Lutz as Table Topics Master presented excellent scenarios with rhyme as the theme, and congratulations to Lydia who won the Best Table Topics Award when reflecting on “In Flanders Field” and her memories of Nova Scotia.

Brad, Rod and Vic were excellent program speakers and congratulations to Brad for winning the Best Speaker Award for his Ice Breaker!! Very well done, and well done too to Julie who won the Best Evaluator Award for her evaluation of Brad’s speech!

There will be no Table Topics on Monday, June 18 as it will be devoted to an Evening of Speeches with Margot as Chair. Four speakers are lined up to take part on the 18th, so do not miss this exciting evening as we wind down the year 2006 – 2007! We look forward to hearing Albert deliver his 10th speech, and become a Competent Communicator! With this goal Tillicum will again achieve President’s Club status!

See you on the 18th!
Best wishes,
