Meeting of Monday, June 4, 2007

Another great turnout of members and we welcomed our 1st time guest Marg, Area 30 Governor: D-30, visiting from Wasaga Toastmasters, Ontario; thank you for making time to join with us during your vacation in British Columbia! As well, Mahesh, a member of Metro Speakers also paid a first-time visit to us, and thanks again for visiting. We were pleased to see Abby make a return visit and especially welcomed two Speechcraft members: April and Afsoun, on their first visit to Tillicum. Glad to hear you enjoyed the evening!

Ken was our able Chair (Captain) this evening, the theme: Life on Other Planets. Great job keeping the meeting to theme with excellent bridging, and an unusual agenda in that roles were performed by members of the "USS Enterprise"!

Karen, as Grammarian (Communications Officer) offered the oh-so-appropriate word of the day: Interstellar (adj.) meaning located or taking place among the stars. Widely and variedly used during the evening, this was an excellent choice of word, and great uhm and ah keeping by Karen!

Tom spoke on Speechcraft and awarded certificates to April and Afsoun for both achieving their 6th speeches and a certificate to Grace for assisting during Speechcraft. The next Speechcraft will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2007. Thanks so much Tom for all your effort and diligence on leading this crash course in public speaking!

Julie (Away Team Leader) headed Table Topics with four great scenarios, and top marks to Rod, who gave a wonderful description of aliens visiting earth, their objectives and oh-so-technical jargon. For all his efforts Rod won the Best Table Topics Speaker Award!

Tonight saw a wonderful array of speakers this evening, two of whom delivered their first speeches at Tillicum. An exceptional Ice Breaker from Judith, the first speech from the Storytelling manual towards ACB from Gertrude, and Albert delivering his 9th speech towards his CC; all very entertaining speeches. Congratulations to Gertrude on winning the Best Speaker Award, and to Maurice for winning the Best Evaluator Award for his evaluation of Albert’s speech. Congratulations to all winners!

Moon Over Buffalo: this was a very humorous and entertaining production, which we all enjoyed!! Great work by all the actors and a great way to spend a Friday night!

Club Picnic: It has been firmed up to hold this event on Monday, July 16 and rather than go “undercover”, as we have in the past, we should take advantage of the seating in front of the band shell and utilize the facilities in this area! More to come on this in the next few weeks!

Lily will chair the June 11th meeting: Rhyme Night. We have held this theme in the past and it was so enjoyable, so get your thinking caps on and keep your creative juices flowing to present lines that rhyme! Please assist Lily as she calls on you to fill roles.

Look forward to seeing you on June 11th!
Best wishes,
