Our most congenial member Brian was our Chair this Evening of Speeches, the theme being “Dieting”. Thanks Brian for such a great job of keeping to theme and to time, with a very full agenda!
Vic, as Grammarian, offered the most appropriate word of the day: Copious, meaning plentiful, profuse, abundant; example: “She was unable to resist the copious buffet desserts and so cheated on her diet!” Naturally used throughout the evening, copious easily found its place in this meeting’s theme! Nicely done Vic!
Only three table topics this evening and Antonella, our Table Topics Master, came up with three great scenarios related to dieting, and it was Julie who won the Best Table Topics award – quite the accomplishment, as she also had the added role of Table Topics Evaluator!
Following a short intermission, our three program speakers Lourdes, Michelle and Maureen took to their tasks. Lourdes, who is moving so quickly through her Competent Communicator manual, enthralled us with her speech. She was followed by Michelle, who covered a great deal of humour in her 20-minute delivery, and Maureen concluded the evening with the last speech in the Specialty Speeches Manual. Great deliveries from all speakers and Michelle took home the Best Speaker award. Maurice won the Best Evaluator award for his evaluation of Maureen’s speech. Congratulations to all winners.
In completing her two manuals, Specialty Speeches and Special Occasion Speeches, Maureen earned her Advanced Communicator Gold. Apart from that and having completed her Advanced Leader, Maureen has now achieved the Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) award. So we offer our congratulations on both awards!
Don’t forget that on Monday, October 29, we have our Pizza evening, and next week, October 22, Maurice will chair our meeting, the theme being Theatre Sports – sounds like lot of fun to wind up this month! Please assist Maurice when he calls on you to fill roles for the meeting agenda.
