It was a dark and windy night but that didn’t deter a great turnout of members and guests! We welcomed our first-time guests Doris and Grace, and returning guests Theresa, Jing Jing, and Peter. Thanks for visiting and glad to hear that you enjoyed the meeting!
Theresa, on her third visit to the club, presented her application form and payment and became a member of Tillicum! Congratulations Theresa; welcome to Tillicum and we look forward to assisting you in your Toastmaster experience!
Michelle, in her first-time role as Chairperson, did an excellent job of keeping the meeting to theme and on time! Our theme this evening was “Mothers-in-law” and was a great hit!!
Susan, as Grammarian, chose Irascible (adj.) as the word of the day. Meaning easily angered, testy or crotchety, the following example was given: “Due to his angry behaviour, none of the servers wanted to wait on the irascible old man.” Mentioned quite often during the meeting and even during a speech, Irascible easily found its way into the club’s vocabulary. Thanks Susan for an excellent job!
During the Business Meeting chaired by Maurice, it was noted that Division J training for club officers will be held on Saturday, January 19. It was also noted that a Pizza Night will be held on Monday, February 11 (a Valentine’s special), and more will be mentioned on this nearer the time.
Table Topics chaired eloquently by Antonella focused on mother-in-law situations, and it was no surprise to see Maurice walk off with the Best Table Topics Speaker Award for his attempts to move his mom-in-law into a nursing home! Nice job to all who contributed to Table Topics!
Lydia, as our very competent Toastmaster, introduced two speakers: Brad #6 and Rod #9. Great speeches from both members ranging from the antics of young children to the history of beer! We never know what to expect when we await the program speakers! The Best Speaker Award went to Brad and Best Evaluator Award to Julie, for her evaluation of Rod’s speech. Congratulations to all winners!
Anita with Lights, Camera, Action, will chair the January 21st meeting, the theme of which is Favourite Movies, so please assist her when she calls on you to fill roles.
See you on the 21st!
Best wishes,
