Again, another excellent turnout of members and we welcomed our first-time guest Rocco and returning guests Christine and Ramesh. Thank you for visiting and for your comments.
On this, her second visit to the club, Christine completed her membership application form and submitted payment, and is now a member of Tillicum Toastmasters. Welcome Christine! We look forward to helping you in your Toastmaster experience!
Ken, our convivial Sergeant-at-Arms, took the role of Chair this evening with the theme: Furniture. Nicely done Ken and quite a lot of talk about furniture and even its “emotional effect” on people!
Michelle P. as Grammarian chose Commodious as the word of the day, meaning spacious, convenient, roomy; ample or adequate for a particular purpose. Example: “After renovations and appropriate furnishings, the rather small room looked quite commodious and we were able to move around in comfort.” Used regularly during the evening, commodious has found its way into Tillicum’s dictionary!! Thanks Michelle for a very comprehensive Grammarian’s report!
Susan, president of Tillicum Toastmasters, gave an educational session related to the Executive and its roles. Elections for the new executive take place in May, and Susan asked members of the current executive to describe their roles and encouraged new members to consider taking on a leadership stance in running for the July 2008-June 2009 executive. Nicely done Susan!
Rosemary, as Table Topics Master, offered five furniture-related scenarios to unsuspecting members and the Best Table Topics Award went to John for his hilarious and Swedish-style rendition of a trip to IKEA!!
Following intermission, we listened to three program speakers: Theresa: CC#2; Susan: Mastering the Toast; and Julie: The Folk Tale. Charming and varied deliveries and the Best Speaker Award went to Julie, and the Best Evaluator Award to Tom, for his evaluation of Julie’s speech. Congratulations to all winners!
Michelle P. will Chair the next meeting on Monday, May 5th, with the theme: My Favourite Tree. So put your environmental thinking caps on and take a trip through the arboretums to come up with your favourite!!
See you on May 5th!
Best wishes,
