Meeting of Monday, July 21, 2008

Another beautiful summer evening saw a good turnout of members and first-time guests and we welcomed Fanny, Jennifer, Raj, and Sanjeev. Thank you for attending and for your positive comments. We look forward to welcoming you as our guests at future meetings!

Lourdes in her first-time role as Chair did a magnificent dog as she led the meeting on time and to theme, with the tail-wagging theme of Dog – Man’s Best Friend.

Marsene, our newest member, gallantly took on the role of Grammarian and chose dog leg (adj.) as the word of the day. Meaning to bend like a dog’s hind leg and with the example of “The fence dog-legged around the old ruins”, we managed to include the word of the day in Round Table Introductions – nice going on your first attempt at a meeting role Marsene and look forward to hearing your projects throughout the year!

JinJing also took on a first-time role, as Table Topics Master! With no notes, she quietly called on five members and presented five scenarios ranging from “How did the dog become man’s best friend?” to “Describe the pros and cons of having a dog” – however, it was Antonella who won the Best Table Topics Award for her answer to the question: Is a man a dog’s best friend?” Nicely done JinJing and keep those questions going!!

The two program speakers this evening were from both ends of the spectrum: Christine V. delivering her first project The Icebreaker, and Mariam, CC, delivering a presentation from the advanced manual. Excellent speeches from both members and congratulations to Christine V. on winning the Best Speaker Award and demonstrating that she has so much potential as a professional speaker. Tom won the Best Evaluator Award for his evaluation of Mariam’s speech, and congratulations are extended to all winners!

During the announcements we advised the club that at the picnic on July 14, the following awards were presented:
Rookie of the Year: Mariam
Evaluator of the Year: Maurice
15-year Member: Margot
Wonderful achievements for which we congratulate you!

Speaking of Margot, our Assistant VP Education she has worked hard to compile the Assigned Roles for the coming months. Please check the web site to see the most current standings and if you are unable to fill a role please find a replacement and advise Margot and Maureen, who will update the web site.

Maurice will be our most amiable Chair next week, July 28, with the theme Out in Nature; please assist him in filling roles.

Look forward to seeing you on July 28th!
Best wishes,
