Meeting of Monday, July 7, 2008

Beautiful weather complemented our theme: A Day at the Beach! We welcomed our guest Anima (Mariam’s sister) who visited Tillicum before leaving for her home country Egypt. Many thanks Anima for taking time to see where your sister excels!

Marsene was our returning guest, who kept her promise to join Tillicum and presented her completed Application Form and cheque payment! Congratulations Marsene on joining Tillicum; we look forward to helping you achieve your goals!

Rosemary, our most amiable and well-prepared Chair, presented a fun evening, which was well-timed and kept to theme. Excellent job Rosemary!

Christine V. in her first-time role as Grammarian, also did an excellent job and chose Languish (v.) as the word of the day. Languish means to be or become feeble, weak, or lacking in vitality and fits the example: “Due to an ineffective Cabinet, the Bill languished in the Senate for months!” Nice job Christine keeping us on track with a word that was well used during the evening!

Lutz, our new president, presented an Educational Session on how to operate the newly-purchased Ben Q projector. Thanks for your work on this Lutz and we hope our newest arrival will offer many hours of enjoying in the coming months!

Lourdes as Table Topics Master chose five themes all with beach situations, and John, our most errant and persuasive member, walked off with the Best Table Topics Award for encouraging us to join his beach party! Nice job to all concerned!

There were three program speakers: Theresa CC #3, Jin Jing CC #6 and John CC #8 – all delivered excellent projects with a vacation theme in mind and we were impressed with the growth from our newer members Theresa and Jin Jing! John again walked off a winner, this time the Best Speaker Award, for his persuading us to buy Time Shares – so very convincing!! Tom won the Best Evaluator Award for his great evaluation of John’s speech. Congratulations to all winners!

Lutz presented three award pins: Julie on her CL, Rosemary on her AC Gold, and Tom on achieving DTM. Well done and a great way to start this new Toastmaster year!

Next Monday, July 14, there will not be a meeting, as we will have our picnic in Queens Park. Please arrive about 6:30 p.m. in the covered area opposite the bandshell!

The next meeting is Monday, July 21, when Lourdes will Chair the meeting with the theme: The Dog: Man’s Best Friend. Please help Lourdes when she calls on you to fill roles.

Look forward to seeing you at the picnic!
Best wishes,
