Meeting of Monday, August 18, 2008

Again, another wonderful gathering of members and guests! Tonight we welcomed our first-time guests Lorraine and Edwin, and our returning guests Andrea, Dennis, Lisa, and Natalie. As well, it was a delight to meet Mariam’s daughter Tahira and to again see Rosemary’s daughters Carmen and Amy. Thanks to you all for visiting and for your positive comments.

On this, her second visit to the club, Natalie submitted her membership application and cheque payment and became a member of Tillicum Toastmasters. Thank you Natalie for choosing Tillicum as your club, and we welcome you to our membership!

Mariam, in her first-time role as Chair, did an excellent job in bridging between roles and keeping to time, and on theme, which was Gardens. A delightful theme, which was enjoyed by all!

Anita, as Grammarian, chose Creeper as the word of the day. Meaning: one that creeps – a plant, a bird, an inset, or reptile, Anita gave the example “My large garden was a haven to many creepers.” Well-employed during the meeting, creeper and its derivations proved a popular word! Thanks Anita.

Lutz chaired the Business Meeting during which Michelle inducted Jennifer, who became a member a few weeks ago. Congratulations Jennifer on officially being welcomed to Tillicum Toastmasters, and we look forward to helping you in the coming weeks.

Margot, as Table Topics Master, proffered five scenarios relating to gardens and did an excellent job in her scope of questioning. Brad won the Best Table Topics Award for his choice of garden, and delighted us all while he explained how he would set up his Beer Garden!!! We’ll keep that in mind when looking for a night out! Congratulations Brad!

Our two program speakers were Christine V and Julie. Christine is such an aspiring speaker with so much potential and delivered the 2nd speech in the CC manual. Julie spoke from her own amusing and inspirational experience in the 2nd project of the Storytelling manual towards her AC Bronze. Both speakers gave excellent deliveries and Julie won the Best Speaker Award, while Maurice won the Best Evaluator Award for his evaluation of Christine’s speech. Congratulations to all winners!

Our night out at the Bavaria Haus on Wednesday, September 10 is meeting with much approval and many have signed up (looks like 18 already!). The signup sheet will be passed around at subsequent meetings, and this should prove to be a fun evening!

Julie will Chair the August 25th meeting, the theme being Global Warming, so please help her in filling roles.

Look forward to seeing you on the 25th,
Best wishes,
