Meeting of Monday, August 25, 2008

This was an excellent night! Our returning guests Andrea, Dennis and Edwin all decided to join Tillicum and presented their completed application forms and payment. Congratulations to you, and welcome to Tillicum! We are so pleased to have you join our membership and look forward to working with you and helping you derive the most from your Toastmaster experience!

It was also nice to see Lydia, who is now a member of an Advanced Club, join us for the evening – thanks so much for attending!

Global Warming was the theme for tonight’s meeting ably chaired by Julie, who kept to theme and time throughout with excellent bridging. Nice job Julie!

Marsene, as Grammarian, presented the appropriate Carbon Footprint as the word-of-the-day, with the example: “We should all do our part in reducing our carbon footprint for a better world in the future.” A great theme with much input from members who readily included the word of the day in their vocabulary!

During the business meeting, Michelle, VP Membership, inducted Natalie, who became a member on August 18. Natalie is an established Toastmaster working on her Advanced Silver, and we are so glad to have you with us! Congratulations Natalie on your induction to Tillicum!

We also congratulate Tom, who has earned the ribbon for Home of the Lt. Gov. of Marketing - Tom serves on District 21 team and we applaud his ongoing efforts at both the club and district levels.

Antonella, who always enjoys the role of Table Topics Master, presented five excellent scenarios based on theme, and Maureen won the Best Table Topics Speaker Award.

Our two speakers this evening were Rosemary and Lutz. Rosemary delivered a wonderful PowerPoint presentation outlining her role as Area 84 Governor and is now eligible to receive the Leadership Excellence certificate. Well done Rosemary and congratulations on the superb work you accomplished as Area Governor.

Lutz delivered another truly great PowerPoint presentation describing the aspects of member and club development to achieve the President’s Distinguished Award, which Tillicum has won for the past six years; great job Lutz on this project that was not evaluated.

Rosemary won the Best Speaker Award and Maureen the Best Evaluator Award for her evaluation of Rosemary’s speech. Congratulations to both winners!

There is no meeting on September 1st due to the Labour Day holiday!

On Wednesday, September 3, the new executive at Tillicum meets for the first time this year! 7 p.m. at the Plaskett Room in the Library.

Wednesday September 10 will soon be here and very many of you have signed up for the Schnitzel Night at the Bavaria Haus Restaurant. Still time to add your name, so please contact Maureen if you want to attend!

Antonella is our illustrious chair of the September 8 meeting, the theme being Transportation Woes. However, we are a fun club so will turn this woeful night into a fun one! Please assist Antonella, as she calls on you to fill roles.

Have a great Labour Day weekend, and see you on the 8th!

Best wishes,
