Meeting of Monday, October 27, 2008

Another full house this evening! We welcomed our returning guest Kelly and thank you for visiting. Thank you too Kelly for joining Tillicum Toastmasters. We welcome you to our club and will help you in your Toastmaster experience.

Mariam was our most capable Chair this evening, with the theme Fictional Characters. A great idea to bring in books from your childhood, and in the round-table introductions many remembered tales from their past and beloved fictional characters. Great bridging throughout and a good job, especially as this is only your second time taking on the role of Chair!

Jennifer as Grammarian chose veracity (n.) as the word of the day. Meaning truthfulness, honesty, with the example “a lack of veracity caused Pinocchio’s nose to grow”, veracity was an excellent choice of word, especially as a comparison to the theme of fiction! Well done Jennifer!

We had an extended business meeting, resulting in Table Topics being reduced to four speakers. Susan, as Table Topics Master, did an excellent job of setting four scenarios ranging from Batman and Superman to Sherlock Holmes! Margot was voted as Best Table Topics Speaker, for her account of Eliza Doolittle in George Bernard Shaw’s “Pygmalion”, aka My Fair Lady. Nicely done Margot!

Good to see Brian again, and this time in the role of Toastmaster. We had two speakers this evening, Andrea and Dennis, both delivering their 2nd project from the Competent Communicator manual. Good job both of you and especially Andrea, as Best Speaker, and Christine V. who won Best Evaluator Award for her evaluation of Andrea’s speech. Congratulations to all winners!

We are approaching a full lineup for the month of November, and on Monday, November 3, the theme will be Haiku, with Julie as Chair. Please assist Julie, when she calls on you to fulfill roles.

See you on November 3, and with best wishes,
